This summer, I started a Scrapbook for Katherine. There will be so many questions that we will not have answers to for her. Hopefully, this scrapbook will help her to understand our incredible journey to adopt her and to become her forever family. She is born in our hearts and we will love her unconditionally. We will keep her birthparents in our prayers and never forget the sacrifice they made in giving her up and pray that they will find peace in knowing that she is very special.
This is a copy of the letter we received from our agency informing us of our LID (log-in date for our dossier) in China with the CCAA. This is the date that all families anxiously wait to receive after submitting their dossiers to China. It is the official date for the actual beginning of the long wait and journey to their child. The timeframe for completing all of the paperwork for our dossier was 6 months before it was sent to China. After arriving in China at the CCAA offices, it was sent to a "Translation Room" where it was translated. Then it went to a "Review Room" where all of the documents were carefully checked and finally, it was sent to the "Matching Room" where it has been sitting for several months waiting for the time when a match for a child can be made. For us, we started our paperwork for our dossier in January 2005. It was mailed on July 29, 2005 and officially logged in on August 24, 2005. We are still waiting, but have been informed that our wait is nearing the end and soon we will be receiving our referral for Katherine MeiLia.
One of my co-workers, Hui, is from China. I asked if she would write "Katherine MeiLia" and "Love" in Chinese characters on a paper heart for me to add to Katherine's scrapbook. She explained that her husband has a very beautiful handwriting and she would ask him to write the name for me. Hui, also explained that "Mei" can be written using two different chinese characters and each have a different meaning. This character translation is the most common used when translating and the character means a type of "winter flower" (the 3rd character from the right). The large character at the bottom is "LOVE".
This translation of "MeiLia" means "BEAUTIFUL" (the last 3 characters). "LOVE" is written using a different style of character.
I love them both and will use both in my scrapbook, but will probably use the translation using the Chinese characters for MeiLia meaning "BEAUTIFUL" (pictured on the right) as my preference when having her name written .
The Chinese characters are very beautiful art forms. I wish I was so talented. This is a very special addition to her scrapbook that I am sure she will treasure forever. Thank you so much!

Just could not resist sharing one of my favorite photos taken with two friends I made in Cozumel, Mexico. Picasso is kissing me and Foxie is trying to squeeze in a kiss too. We all love the ocean and can't wait to have Katherine share in these dive vacations with us. I think a trip to the Florida Keys next summer will be the first of many on our list.
Today we received our Adoption Training Manual from our agency. Page 1 states "Your long journey has almost concluded and soon you will travel to China to be united with your child!" This was exciting to read because this has been a very long journey and we are beginning to realize just how close we are to traveling to China to bring our precious little Katherine home. OK, I have to confess that I have packed and repacked her suitcase at least 3 times already and who knows how many more times before we actually travel (smile :) ).
